Vol. 461 No. 6

Written Answers. - Peat-Fired Power Plant.

Peadar Clohessy

Question:

165 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the reason for the delay in advertising the competition for the proposed 120 megawatt peat-fired power plant; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3456/96]

This is the first competition of its kind to be run in Ireland, and because it is taking place at a time of considerable change in the industry, the large portfolio of documentation, agreements and contracts which are necessary in order to run the competition have taken longer than expected to prepare. My Department, the Power Procurer and the ESB are working to find an acceptable and workable procedure for the running of the competition which will ensure that the competition is fair to all and will have the confidence of all bidders. The competition will proceed expeditiously once these issues have been satisfactorily resolved.
