Vol. 461 No. 6

Written Answers. - North Dublin Water Supply Problems.

Derek McDowell

Question:

38 Mr. D. McDowell asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that water supply in parts of north Dublin city is seriously inadequate; and when he will publish the recommendations of the strategic study currently being carried out at the behest of his Department. [2008/96]

Ivor Callely

Question:

89 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the unsatisfactory water supply in the northside of Dublin; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that some homes have to wait hours before their water tank refills; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3430/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 38 and 89 together.

Significant improvements in water supply infrastructure continue to be carried out with the benefit for north Dublin City. The North Dublin City Arterial Watermain was completed last year and a major expansion of capacity at the Leixlip Water Treatment Plant is now under way. An extensive water conservation programme will also be commenced in Dublin in 1996.

The Dublin Regional Water Supply Strategic Study is nearing completion and I intend to make an announcement in relation to it in the near future.
