Vol. 461 No. 6

Written Answers. - Homes for the Elderly.

Séamus Hughes

Question:

75 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Health if he will make a capital allocation towards the provision of homes for the aged in Ballinrobe, County Mayo, which is a priority with the Western Health Board for 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3457/96]

As the Deputy will be aware the provision of a long stay home for the elderly in Ballinrobe is a matter for the Western Health Board.

The board has carried out a review of the long stay requirements for the elderly in its region. The final report will not be ready until late March or early April but it is understood that homes for the elderly will be given a high priority. However, before approval can be given to any of the board's recommendations, I must take into account the overall internal priorities of the board and the capital funding available.
