Vol. 461 No. 6

Written Answers. - Cross-Border Traffic Increase.

James Leonard

Question:

84 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for the Environment the increase, if any, in cross-Border vehicular traffic on the N2 Dublin/Derry road since the ceasefire. [1624/96]

Traffic surveys on the network of national roads are carried out by the National Roads Authority on an annual basis and the results are published by the Authority. Data is collected from automatic recorders supplemented by visual counts normally undertaken in the autumn period each year. The most recent published data is in respect of 1994. While data in respect of 1995 have not yet been analysed and published by the Authority, I understand from the Authority that a preliminary analysis of the 1995 count indicates an increase of approximately 10 per cent in cross-Border traffic on the N2 over the 1994 level.
