Question:

87 Mr. Foley asked the Minister for the Environment the plans, if any, he has to designate the town of Castle-island, County Kerry for urban renewal under the next review. [3428/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 86 and 87 together.

The present urban renewal scheme commenced in August 1994 and will operate for a three year period in 35 centres throughout the country. In the meantime, a comprehensive review of the impact, effectiveness and cost of the urban renewal schemes which have operated to date is being undertaken to assist in the formulation of future policy in this area. It would be inappropriate to consider what new areas, if any, might be suitable for designation until general policy in relation to the next phase of urban renewal is determined in the light of the review.
