Written Answers. - Regional Water and Sewerage Supply Schemes.

Séamus Hughes

Question:

91 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for the Environment when he will approve the Erris regional water supply scheme extension to Bangor Erris, County Mayo in view of the fact that a recommendation on the tender is with his Department since November 1992; if he is in a position to approve of the tender and the tender relating to the extension to Glenamoy; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3463/96]

Work is currently under way on the Belmullet town distribution phase of the Erris regional water supply scheme. Having regard to the existing level of commitments under the water and sewerage programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to approve further phases of this scheme.

An application for the Connemara Environment Project, which includes the Inis Mór water supply scheme, has been submitted to the European Commission for Cohesion Fund assistance. My Department has emphasised the urgency of this application and continues to press for its approval.
