Vol. 461 No. 6

Written Answers. - Swimming Pool Provision.

Chris Flood

Question:

117 Mr. Flood asked the Minister for Education if she will have arrangements made without further delay to provide a 50 metre swimming pool in view of the fact that the International Swimming Hall of Fame has made a decision to locate its European headquarters in Dublin and in view of the continuing strong demand for a pool; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3492/96]

As I outlined in my reply of 25 January 1996 proposals for the provision of a 50 metre swimming pool are under consideration in my Department. A project of this scale requires very careful and detailed consideration before any decisions can be made in the matter in view of the overall capital and operating costs involved. Because of its implications for Exchequer funding I am not in a position to say at this stage when a decision about the project can be made.
