Question:

172 Mr. McCreevy asked the Minister for the Environment the number of group water schemes and regional water schemes under consideration and in progress in County Kildare; the purpose of each scheme; the actual and estimated costs of each scheme; and the expected competition date of each scheme. [3615/96]

The information requested is as follows:

Major Schemes

There are no regional water schemes at present under construction by, or on behalf of, Kildare County Council. My Department is funding a major refurbishment of the Leixlip water plant which has enabled Fingal County Council to make additional water available to Kildare County Council.

I have recently approved the appointment of consultants to prepare a preliminary report for the North-East Kildare water scheme. The cost of this scheme has not yet been authoritatively estimated.

Proposals for the following schemes have been submitted to my Department:
