Vol. 461 No. 7

Written Answers. - Dublin 8 Environmental Impact Study.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

173 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for the Environment if he is in possession of the Environmental Impact Study on the Cork Street / Coombe relief route in Dublin 8; if funding will be available in the near future to complete this project; when the local authorities will be sanctioned to commence the work; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3616/96]

Dublin Corporation have applied to me for approval to the Cork Street/Coombe relief route scheme and have submitted an environmental impact statement in respect of the project pursuant to section 51 of the Roads Act, 1993. The corporation is preparing a compulsory purchase order for the acquisition of the necessary land.

The corporation was informed by my Department in November 1995 that no funding will be available under the EU co-financed grants scheme for the project, as it does not meet the strict EU eligibility criteria on the basis of the information supplied. If approved, therefore, it would be a matter for the corporation to fund the project from its own resources, supplemented by the annual discretionary grant from my Department.
