Vol. 461 No. 7

Written Answers. - Provision of Women's Prison.

Chris Flood

Question:

248 Mr. Flood asked the Minister for Justice the plans, if any, she has to properly meet the needs of women in State custody. [3722/96]

I am aware that conditions are not satisfactory for women in prison.

On 30 January last, I announced a package of measures to tackle crime, which included the immediate recommencement of work in connection with the building of a women's prison at Cowley Place, in Dublin. This work is under way.
