Question:

258 Dr. McDaid asked the Minister for Social Welfare the total amount paid by employers on PRSI in 1994; the projected total amount due to be paid by employers on PRSI in 1995; the total cost to the Exchequer of the supplementary welfare system in 1994; and the projected total cost to the Exchequer of the supplementary welfare system in 1995. [3617/96]

The total amount of PRSI (including the health and employment and training levies) paid by employers in 1994 and the provisional amount for 1995 are £1,124.5 million and £1,203 million respectively relating to more than one million employees.

The total cost to the Exchequer of the supplementary welfare allowance scheme in 1994 was £121 million while the provisional total cost in 1995 was £134 million.
