267 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the plans, if any, he has to introduce legislation on working time prior to the coming into effect of the EU Working Time Directive; whether the scope of this proposed new legislation, if any, will enable Ireland to proceed to ratify the ILO Convention Number 171; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Legislation to implement Council Directive 93/104/EC covering certain aspects of the Organisation of Working Time, including provisions relating to the safety and health of night workers, is being prepared in my Department.

I will consider reviewing the question of ratification of the ILO Convention. in consultation with other Ministers as appropriate, following the implementation of the Council Directive and as resources permit.
