Vol. 461 No. 7

Written Answers. - Funding for Aftercare Unit.

Tony Gregory

Question:

138 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Health the funding made available in 1995 to the Crosscare Aftercare Support Unit, Dublin 7; the funding proposals, if any, his Department or the Eastern Health Board has received from Crosscare; and when a decision to enable this organisation to continue its work on a long-term basis will be made. [3612/96]

In 1992 the Council of Crosscare (formerly the Catholic Social Services Council) agreed to fund the Aftercare Support Service for a three-year period to the end of 1995 and therefore no funding was requested from the Eastern Health Board. The Eastern Health Board has advised that an application for funding of £65,000 for this service was received by the board in late December, 1995. The application is currently under consideration by the board in the context of available funding for the development of child care services this year and in the light of other competing priorities for service development. In this regard the board wil be in contact with Crosscare in the near future.

The Eastern Health Board already provides very significant funding to Crosscare for its residential child care services including aftercare and independent living units.
