Vol. 461 No. 7

Written Answers. - Oncologist Appointment.

Batt O'Keeffe

Question:

143 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health if he intends to approve the appointment of an additional oncologist at Cork University Hospital. [3763/96]

Limerick East): There are currently no proposals for the creation of an additional consultant oncologist post at Cork University Hospital.

As the Deputy may be aware the Comhairle na nOspidéal report on consultant manpower in the Southern Health Board area is currently being considered by all the relevant agencies. I understand that the board is holding a special meeting at the end of March to further consider the matter. When the board has concluded its deliberations it will then be in a position to submit proposals in relation to the development of oncology services in its area.
