Vol. 462 No. 2

Written Answers. - Electoral Registration.

Willie Penrose

Question:

126 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for the Environment if he will consider changing the regulation pertaining to the residency requirement for registration for electoral purposes from the current date of 15 September each year to 15 October each year in view of the fact that such a change would permit and facilitate students to register in the town where their college is located; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4397/96]

Suggestions for improving the registration process, including the registration of third-level students, are among the electoral matters which I have referred for consideration by the Select Committee on Finance and General Affairs. The committee has agreed to consider these matters and when I receive its report, I will consider what specific changes should be made, either by legislation or otherwise.
