Vol. 462 No. 2

Written Answers. - Grant Payment.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

127 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for the Environment if his Department provides grants to fund home extensions and other facilities for families with a severely handicapped child; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4423/96]

Under the disabled person's grant scheme, which is administered by county councils and county borough corporations, assistance is provided for the adaptation or extension of, or provision of additional facilities in, existing houses specifically to meet the needs of any disabled member of the household. My Department recoups 50 per cent of the costs, up to a maximum of £4,000, incurred by local authorities in the payment of individual grants.
