Vol. 462 No. 2

Written Answers. - Naturalisation Application.

Seamus Brennan

Question:

188 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Justice in relation to her reply to Parliamentary Question 120 of 14 February 1996, regarding a naturalisation application, if her attention has been drawn to the fact that he was legally working and paying Irish taxes between 1987 and 1992 as Senior House Officer and Registrar at Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital and St. Vincent's Hospital, Dublin; if her attention has further been drawn to the fact that he was also involved in teaching student nurses and doctors during that period at St. Vincent's, the Royal College of Surgeons and University College, Dublin: and his legal status on the expiry of his current passport in May 1996 in view of the fact that the applicant has indicated that he no longer wishes to practice as a doctor in Ireland and that her requirement for him to secure full registration with the Medical Council does not therefore arise, that he does not need to pursue his previous profession as a doctor in view of the fact that his wife secured a senior post in her own profession, resulting in him now being a legal dependant of his wife. [4241/96]

Some of the information contained in this question is new to me. I will be seeking further details in this regard from the applicant and I will communicate directly with the applicant and the Deputy in due course.
