257 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he will ensure that Ireland follows the move in the European Parliament to ensure that the so called V Chip be installed in every television set sold here to enable parents to vet TV programmes being watched in their households; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I have no statutory function with regard to the standardisation of TV reception equipment. Moreover, even if such a requirement were to be introduced by the EU as a broadcasting policy measure, I would have no statutory function with regard to its transposition into Irish law.
