Kathleen Lynch

Question:

38 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the conditions under which Tourism Quality Services Ireland Limited is to be enabled to issue certificates applying for liquor licenses under the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 1988; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4357/96]

Síle de Valera

Question:

44 Miss de Valera asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade if any Irishbased company applied for the contract for the registration and classification of hotels, guesthouses, caravan and camping sites, holiday cottages and apartments and hostels. [4298/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 38 and 44 together.

The contract for the inspection of accommodation for the purpose of registration and classification and the issue of certificates to restaurants applying for a liquor licence under the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 1988, was awarded by Bord Fáilte to Tourism Quality Services (Ireland) Ltd — TQS — following an open tendering procedure conducted in accordance with EU public procurement rules.

As the contract was awarded strictly in accordance with EU rules, I would not consider it appropriate to release details of the candidates involved.

The 1995 Tourist Traffic Act enabled Bord Fáilte to delegate the functions in question to a third party and the terms and conditions under which TQS (Ireland) Limited carry out these functions are provided for in the 1995 Act and in the contract drawn up between Bord Fáilte and the company.
