Vol. 462 No. 2

Written Answers. - IFI and INTERREG Funds.

Tom Moffatt

Question:

59 Dr. Moffatt asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade whether the west of Ireland is eligible for any funding under special designated status for IFI or INTERREG funds. [4216/96]

Both initiatives primarily target the whole of Northern Ireland and the Border counties of Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Louth, Monaghan, and Sligo in Ireland. The designated areas have been established in accordance with Annex 1 to Notice 94/C 180/13 by the EU Commission in the case of the INTERREG Programme and pursuant to Article 10 (a) of the Anglo-Irish Agreement of 16 November 1985 and subsequent bi-lateral agreement of 26 September 1986 establishing the International Fund for Ireland. However, the whole island, including regions outside the designated areas, have benefited from various projects assisted under these programmes such as the marketing of the island of Ireland as a quality holiday destination.
