Vol. 462 No. 2

Written Answers. - Letterkenny (Donegal) Theatre Project.

James McDaid

Question:

109 Dr. McDaid asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the current situation regarding the Letterkenny theatre project, County Donegal. [4188/96]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that I have decided in principle to approve the funding of the Letterkenny theatre project from EU moneys available to me under the cultural development incentives scheme, which I am administering under the Operational Programme for Tourism, 1994-1999. Subject to a number of outstanding issues relating to the project being resolved to the satisfaction of my Department a grant offer to an amount of £1,500,000 will be made which, when added to the matching funds from Donegal County Council, will provide cultural infrastructure to the value of £2 million for the region. I expect this process to be concluded in the coming weeks.
