Vol. 462 No. 3

Written Answers. - Civil Service Recruitment.

Derek McDowell

Question:

43 Mr. D. McDowell asked the Minister for Finance whether he intends to employ people as a result of the recent public competition for executive officer, higher executive officer and administrative officer in the civil service; and the procedure which will be followed. [4575/96]

It is envisaged that appointments will be made at these levels. As the Deputy is aware, staffing restrictions currently operate under which only one out of every three vacancies may be filled. However, as a precaution against unfilled vacancies falling disproportionately on any grade, Departments have been instructed that appointments are to be made equitably as between various categories of staff.
