Question:

1 Mr. D. Wallace asked the Taoiseach the total value of food imports during 1995; the five main products and their total values during this period; and the five main countries supplying food imports. [4354/96]

The most recent month for which the information is available is September 1995. I will, therefore, give statistics for the nine month period January-September 1995. The total value of food imports in the period was £823.4 million. The five main food categories imported were:

Overall, approximately 10 per cent of trade is unclassified by commodity. The unclassified trade includes intra-EU estimates, low value transactions and some parcel post and Shannon Free Airport trade.
