Vol. 462 No. 6

Written Answers. - Discharge of Defence Force Personal.

Paul Bradford

Question:

137 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Defence the plans, if any, the military authorities have to discharge personnel from the Defence Forces prior to any proposed voluntary early retirement scheme being offered. [5199/96]

There are no specific plans to discharge personnel from the Defence Forces prior to the introduction of a voluntary early retirement scheme. However, members of the Defence Forces are liable to be discharged for appropriate reasons in accordance with the provisions of Defence Force Regulations e.g. if they are deemed by a medical board to be below the required medical standard for service in the Defence Forces.
