Vol. 462 No. 6

Written Answers. - Arts Centre (Dublin) Funding.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

71 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if he will consider the provision of special funding from his Department separate from moneys disbursed through the Arts Council in view of the urgent need for funding for the refurbishing of a Dublin Arts Centre (details supplied) and the inadequate level of funding hitherto received from that source relative to the needs of this centre; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5228/96]

While I appreciate the excellent work being done by the centre in question, the position is that there are no special funds at my disposal to supplement assistance which might be provided by An Chomhairle Ealaíon from its annual allocation for capital expenditure towards the refurbishment of existing arts and cultural infrastructure.

The question of funding is, therefore, a matter for An Chomhairle Ealaíon.
