Vol. 462 No. 6

Written Answers. - Dunboyne (Meath) National School.

Mary Wallace

Question:

82 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Education the current position regarding the proposed extension to Dunboyne primary school, County Meath; the number of extra rooms that are proposed for this extension; the cost of this project; when this work is expected to commence; the completion date for this project; whether the extension will be open for September 1996; the current pupil population of this school; the number of additional pupils that will be catered for in this extension; the allowance made, if any, for both current and future building developments in the Dunboyne area; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5183/96]

A four classroom extension to Dunboyne national school is included in the 1996 capital building programme. The project is in early planning stage and consequently it is not possible to give a realistic cost estimate or timescale.

The new extension will not be completed by September of this year. However, my Department proposes to provide temporary accommodation to address the need for an additional classroom for the new term.

The school has 685 pupils at present. The projections undertaken by my Department's planning section suggest that enrolments will grow to 750 over the next few years. The extension will cater for this increase.

Current and planned housing developments in the Dunboyne area were considered by my Department when determining the accommodation needs of the school.
