Noel Ahern

Question:

115 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Justice her policy on job sharing applications from staff under the control of her Department; the problems, if any, her Department has in adhering to Government policy on this matter; and if she will examine the case of persons (details supplied) in Dublin; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5337/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 100 and 115 together.

The policy of my Department is to facilitate persons who apply to job share as far as possible, subject to the exigencies of the service. A number of applications have been received recently from officers in the particular service involved, for job-sharing, including applications from the persons in question. The management in the Dublin office where the applicants serve has advised that it is essential that a replacement be made available for the officers in question to maintain a satisfactory service to the public. The position is being kept under review.
