69 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health the legislative and administrative priorities of his Department in 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5295/96]

Limerick East): The information requested by the Deputy is as follows:

Legislative Priorities

Health Amendment Bill, to provide for health services for persons who contracted Hepatitis C (before the Oireachtas). Health Amendment Bill, to strengthen accountability in the health boards. Adoption Bill, amending legislation arising from Keegan v. Ireland judgment and other adoptive issues. Mental Treatment Bill; new and amending legislation to Mental Treatment Act 1945. Nursing Bill, revision of Nurses Act, 1985. Health Amendment Bill, to amend Health Act 1970 for the replacement of the Eastern Health Board. Medical Practitioners Act, 1978 (Amendment) Bill. Child Care Act 1991, implementation of Parts VII and VIII of the said Act. Children's Bill, to make provision for dealing with difficult children. Inspectorate of Social Service, to establish an Inspectorate responsible for quality assurance and audit of child care practice and undertaking enquiries.

Administrative Priorities

My administrative priorities for 1996 will be the continuation of the implementation of the health policies contained in the Government Policy Agreement “A Government of Renewal” and of the Health Strategy.
