Vol. 463 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

M. J. Nolan

Question:

73 Mr. Nolan asked the Minister for Justice the Garda strength in Garda stations in counties Kilkenny, Wicklow, Wexford and Laois for each of the last five years. [5895/96]

The Garda authorities are responsible for the detailed deployment of Garda personnel and resources to different areas. They have expressed concern, and I share that concern, about supplying the kind of detailed information sought by the Deputy on the grounds of security and in the interests of crime prevention generally.

The following table shows the total strength for each of the Garda Divisions responsible for counties Kilkenny, Wicklow, Wexford and Laois as at 31 December each year for the years 1991 to 1995. It should be noted that parts of County Wicklow lie within three Garda Divisions i.e. Wexford Division, Carlow-Kildare Division of DMA East Division.
