Vol. 463 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda-Customs Co-Operation.

Tony Gregory

Question:

79 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice the co-operation between gardaí and customs officers recently deployed to prosecute street traders in Dublin 1; the reason scarce resources are being utilised for this purpose; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5953/96]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that, following the coming into effect of the Tobacco Products (Tax Stamps) Regulations, 1995, on 4 March 1996, gardaí assisted customs and excise officers in the enforcement of the regulations.

I have been assured by the Garda authorities that normal policing was not affected by the allocation of resources to the operation concerned.
