Vol. 463 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers (Resumed).

Nobody in the universe knows more about the shortcomings of a centralised education system than the members of the British Parliament. The Minister for Education is making a very serious mistake in advocating regional education boards and interference with the vocational education committees. Does she realise she will have a great deal of opposition not just from the Opposition benches but from the Government parties?

We have a strategic alliance.

Is the Minister saying that if the funding is not available she will not be able to go ahead with plans for regional education boards, notwithstanding the legislation before the House?

It is very significant that the proposals have been accepted by Cabinet and that the draft heads of Bills have been passed by Cabinet and are now with the draftsman. I have the confidence of my Cabinet colleagues.

And not the backbenchers.

What about funding for psychological testing?

I am taking Question Nos. 4 and 5 in ordinary time.
