Vol. 463 No. 5

Written Answers. - Educational Programmes.

Ivor Callely

Question:

96 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education her views on the broadcasting of children and adult educational programmes; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6786/96]

The broadcasting of educational programmes for children and for adults is primarily a matter for the broadcasting authorities. Such programmes are regularly broadcast from our own national broadcasting services.

A range of educational programmes broadcast from services abroad aimed at both adults and children is also widely available in this country.

These programmes have obvious educational value for both adults and children. For children they can support and enrich their school experiences. It is desirable that parents would monitor and supervise their children's use of educational programmes as well as their general use of the broadcast media.
