Vol. 463 No. 5

Written Answers. - Arts Projects Assessment.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

110 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Education if she will consider local centre assessment of art projects in view of the fact that this is already being done in the oral/aural language examinations; and his views on whether this is a more logical approach rather than risk these projects being mislaid en route to the Central Examinations Office. [6831/96]

Junior certificate art examination exercises are already marked in schools by visiting examiners. In the light of the problems which arose in the 1995 leaving certificate art examination the option of having leaving certificate craftwork examined in schools is being considered by my Department.

The Deputy will also be aware that the operation of the 1995 leaving certificate art examination is the subject of an ongoing inquiry by Price Waterhouse.
