Vol. 463 No. 6

Written Answers. - Westport (Mayo) Cohesion Funding.

Séamus Hughes

Question:

157 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for the Environment the indications, if any, he has received regarding an application for cohesion funding not being considered favourably for the Westport regional water augmentation scheme, County Mayo. [7114/96]

Having regard to the economic assessment of this proposal carried out in connection with the Cohesion Fund application, it is reasonable to anticipate that EU co-financing will be more readily achieved for it on the basis of a redesigned scheme with higher cost-benefit ratio. As stated in reply to Question No. 132 of 12 March 1996, Mayo County Council has recently prepared a revised proposal which my Department is now examining.
