Vol. 463 No. 6

Written Answers. - Environmental Agency Resources.

Tony Killeen

Question:

160 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for the Environment the plans, if any, he has to make extra resources available to the Environmental Protection Agency to provide additional enforcement staff and mobile units. [7177/96]

The total Estimates provision for the Environmental Protection Agency in the current year is £6.17 million, an increase of over 20 per cent on the 1995 provision. This level of funding reflects the ongoing build-up of the agency organisation and functions. In addition to its Exchequer grant, the agency has substantial income from its integrated pollution control licensing function and from services provided to local authorities. Overall, I am satisfied that the Environmental Protection Agency has appropriate resources to carry out its functions.
