Vol. 463 No. 6

Written Answers. - St. Gabriel's (Dublin) National School.

Joe Costello

Question:

202 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Education the number of pupils attending Saint Gabriel's national school, Oxmantown Road, Dublin 7; the extra personnel over and above the standard pupil/teacher ratio being provided; the extra resources that are being made available to combat disadvantage and support the school children and their families; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7157/96]

I understand that the information requested by the Deputy was intended to relate to both St. Gabriel's boys and girls national schools, Oxmantown Road.

The number of children enrolled in the boys school at 30 September 1995 was 81. A total of 100 pupils were enrolled in the girls school on the same date. In addition to their normal teacher allocations, each of these schools has the service of a full-time remedial teacher. Both schools are also included in the disadvantaged areas scheme and as such each has the services of an over-quota concessionary teacher post.

Also, by virtue of their disadvantaged status, both schools receive special supplementary capitation funding. The funding in question is being increased to £30 per pupil with effect from September next.
