Vol. 463 No. 6

Written Answers. - Juvenile Diversion Programme.

Liz O'Donnell

Question:

238 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Justice if she has satisfied herself that the juvenile diversion programme is adequately evaluated to ensure that when a prosecution is waived and the alternative of juvenile diversion is chosen by the authorities, that sufficient supervision and monitoring of the young persons is maintained; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7242/96]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that all aspects of the juvenile diversion programme are under ongoing review and assessment, including staffing, resources and administrative procedures. Adjustments to the programme take place where the need to do so is identified.
