Vol. 463 No. 6

Written Answers. - Missing Persons Helpline.

Liz O'Donnell

Question:

239 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Justice the plans, if any, she has to fund the establishment of an Irish missing persons helpline; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7243/96]

The Garda missing persons bureau is responsible for the tracing of all persons reported missing and, as part of this function, liaises with the families concerned. In addition, a number of voluntary agencies are also involved in tracing missing persons and offering counselling to their relatives. In the light of the services available, I have no proposals to fund a missing persons helpline.
