Question:

258 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the name, location and number of staff employed in each agency, organisation or body under the aegis of his Department which has a responsibility in relation to job creation, including tourism, enterprise promotion, community, rural or urban development and EU initiatives, including disbursement of grant aid. [6948/96]

The bodies under the aegis of my Department which have responsibility in relation to the areas referred to are: Teagasc, An Bord Bia, An Bord Glás, Coillte Bord na gCon, (and subsidiaries), the Irish National Stud Company Ltd., the Horseracing Authority (and subsidiaries).

The names and locations of the staff involved are matters for the bodies themselves.

My Department is also responsible for the administration of the LEADER II EU Initiative for rural development under which groups are approved to implement their own business plans. The programme applies to all rural areas and in all 36 groups have been approved to implement local or sectoral plans or to participate in the pre-development stage. The appointment of staff is a matter for the groups themselves, many of which are engaged in other programmes and activities.
