Question:

287 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Marine the number of ports where the harbour masters are operating in a dual capacity as chief executive officer and harbour master; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6999/96]

Harbour masters at the following five ports, scheduled under the Harbours Act, 1946, are operating in a dual capacity as chief executive/secretary and harbour master: Baltimore/Skibbereen, Bantry, Dundalk, Kinsale and Wicklow.

Under section 45 of the Harbours Act, 1946, the Minister may amalgamate offices under a harbour authority.
