Vol. 463 No. 6

Written Answers. - Galway Garda Vacancies.

Robert Molloy

Question:

74 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Justice if her attention has been drawn to the grave concern in Galway over the failure to fill vacancies in the Garda Galway West division and to increase the Garda establishment to cater for the security needs of this rapidly expanding industrial, commercial, tourist, educational, and residential centre; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7075/96]

The Garda authorities are responsible for the detailed allocation of Garda personnel and resources to individual areas. They have informed me that the present strength of the Galway West Division is 307 members.

The Garda authorities also have informed me that the allocation and deployment of personnel within the Galway West Division is reviewed on a continual basis to ensure that the policing needs of the Division are adequately met. I am assured by them that the question of allocating additional resources as they become available to the division will be considered in conjunction with the needs of other divisions.
