Question:

53 Mr. McCreevy asked the Minister for Finance the percentage of males and females in general service grades in the Civil Service at the end of each of the years 1985, 1990 and 1995. [7300/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 51, 52 and 53 together.

Details of the percentage of women in the main occupational groups in the Civil Service as at 31 December 1995 are contained in Table 1.

Reliable data in respect of male/female breakdown is not available in respect of periods prior to 31 October 1987 when the annual report on Equality of Opportunity in the Civil Service was first produced. I have, therefore, provided a male/female percentage breakdown of general service grades in the Civil Service, by grade, for 31 October 1987, 31 December 1990 and 31 December 1993 in Table 2.

Table 3 provides details of numbers serving in each of the general service grades as at 31 December 1995, broken down between male and female along with a percentage breakdown.
