Written Answers. - European Poverty Programme.

Brendan Smith

Question:

84 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Social Welfare the projects, if any, that have been assisted under the European Union's Poverty 3 Programme; the level of funding allocated to each project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7313/96]

The Poverty 3 Programme was the third European anti-poverty programme of its type. It was a further development of the previous two poverty programmes It ran from 1989 to 1994.

There were three Irish projects in the Poverty 3 Programme, co-funded by the European Commission and my Department through the Combat Poverty Agency.

They were the FORUM project in Connemara, the PAUL project in Limerick and the Dublin Travellers' Educational Group.

Funding was broken down between the three projects as follows:

£

1.

PAUL

1,825,000

2.

FORUM

1,675,000

3.

D.T.E.G.

300,000

Following the end of the Poverty 3 Programme, community development elements of the projects continued to be funded by my Department.
