85 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of people currently in receipt of blind pensions, both contributory and non-contributory. [7231/96]

There were 2,456 persons in receipt of the blind person's pension at the end of February 1996. This is a non-contributory pension. There is no contributory blind person's pension scheme.

86 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of people currently in receipt of orphan's pension; both contributory and non-contributory. [7233/96]

At the end of February 1996, there were 796 recipients of orphan's contributory allowance and 316 recipients of orphan's non-contributory pension.
