Vol. 463 No. 8

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Michael Ring

Question:

141 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social Welfare the outcome of an appeal for a carer's allowance in respect of a person (details supplied) in County Mayo. [7375/96]

The person concerned was refused payment of carer's allowance as she was engaged in part-time employment and did not, therefore, satisfy one of the conditions for entitlements to this allowance. She subsequently notified the Department that she had ceased employment and she has been awarded carer's allowance with effect from 22 February 1996. Her appeal against the original decision to refuse her allowance claim has been withdrawn as a result.

An allowance book covering payment from 21 March has been issued and a cheque in respect of the arrears due will be issued this week.
