Vol. 463 No. 8

Written Answers. - Area Aid Applications.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

173 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the steps, if any, he has taken to ensure that farmers are aware of the need to submit their area aid forms prior to 30 April 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7573/96]

The following steps have been undertaken by my Department to ensure that farmers are aware that the closing date for the area aid application forms is 30 April 1996: (i) Copies of application forms, help-sheet, terms and conditions, in which the closing date of 30 April 1996 is set out, were issued to herdowners who submitted area aid applications in 1994 or 1995. (ii) Articles on the 1996 area aid scheme have been in each issue of the Farmers' Journal during the past four weeks. (iii) The main farm organisations have been made aware of the closing date. (iv) An advertisement in last week's Farmers' Journal, Farm Examiner, Farming Independent and local press stressed the 30 April 1996 closing date. (v) Close liaison is maintained with Teagasc in relation to the closing date and all other elements of the area aid arrangements.
