Vol. 463 No. 8

Written Answers. - REP Scheme.

Tony Killeen

Question:

174 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the number of farmers in County Clare awaiting first and second REP scheme payments; and the current delay period for those awaiting first payment. [7624/96]

The number of applications being processed under the REP scheme in County Clare is 400. Only 11 applications for second year payments have been received to date. As a result of the new provisions drawn up for REPS in the Burren my Department has received an upsurge in applications from that area. This has led to some delays in processing applications.

Due to the high level of deficient plans submitted during the first year of the scheme more detailed checking of applications is now being carried out before payments are made. This has led to some delays but I am seeking to ensure that these are minimised. The increased level of inspections is necessary to ensure compliance with the terms of the scheme.

Question:

175 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will ensure immediate payment of REP scheme second phase; and if he will have arrangements made to clear the backlog of those awaiting first payment. [7625/96]

Due to the high level of deficient plans submitted during the first year of the scheme more detailed checking of applications is now being carried out before payments are made. This has led to some delays but I am seeking to ensure that these are minimised. The increased level of inspections is necessary to ensure compliance with the terms of the scheme.
