177 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the level of remuneration of the non-executive directors of boards, companies or agencies under the aegis of his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6503/96]

Non-executive directors in Aer Lingus, Aer Rianta, Bord Gáis Éireann, Córas Iompair Éireann, Electricity Supply Board, Irish Aviation Authority, Irish National Petroleum Corporation, An Post and Telecom Éireann are paid fees of £5,000 per annum. The non-executive chairpersons of these bodies are paid £7,500 per annum.

Non-executive directors in Bord na Móna are paid fees of £4,000 per annum. The non-executive chairman receives £6,000 per annum.

The non-executive chairman of the Mining Board is paid fees of £276 per sitting day (public or private) and £100 per full day for any necessary attendance (other than sittings) in discharging the board's business.

No fees are payable to civil servants appointed as non-executive directors of any of the above boards.
