Vol. 463 No. 8

Written Answers. - Facility for Disabled Children.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

116 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in having funding made available to a post primary school (details supplied) in County Cork for the installation of a lift which is necessary for the disabled children attending this school. [7386/96]

The accommodation requirements of the post-primary schools in the area referred to by the Deputy, including the need for physical education facilities, have been examined by my Department in consultation with the school authorities. The schedules of accommodation for both schools have been agreed.

My Department hopes to initiate the architectural planning of this work as soon as possible. The installation of a lift for the disabled children attending the school in question will be planned in the context of the proposed building project. At this stage, it is not possible to say when construction will commence.
