Vol. 463 No. 8

Written Answers. - Psychological Services.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

121 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Education when a person (details supplied) in County Monaghan will be seen by the educational psychiatrist. [7515/96]

The psychological service provided by my Department is available to a limited number of national schools serving disadvantaged areas. The service is not available to national schools in County Monaghan at present.

In general, the responsibility for the psychological assessment of children in national schools, where such is deemed necessary, is a matter for the regional health board through the appropriate Director of Community Care. Consequently, the issue of when a psychological assessment or any psychiatric investigation may be arranged for the pupil referred to in the question is a matter for the regional health board.
